In 1988, the Black Clergywomen Caucus of The United Methodist Church discussed the lack of women-of-color faculty at UM seminaries and theological schools. What began as a discussion resulted in a scholarship program-the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry's Women of Color Scholars Program. The issues that emerge in this video are examples of what must be addressed when worldviews and experiences - the result of historically aberrant social conventions, public policy and institutionalized practices - interfere with creating an equitable and humane society. -and in conclusion a refugee from El Salvador becomes a United Methodist and returns to his home to start a new United Methodist Church there.
