FOLLOWING THE PATH: THE WOMEN OF COLOR SCHOLARS PROGRAM

DVD0277
In 1988, the Black Clergywomen Caucus of The United Methodist Church discussed the lack of women-of-color faculty at UM seminaries and theological schools. What began as a discussion resulted in a scholarship program-the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry's Women of Color Scholars Program. This resource share the experiences and candid observations of courageous women who dared to dream and who, through the support of the program, are now changing how universities, seminaries and pulpits of The UMC look. This inspiring program increases the awareness of the gender issues, diversity and isolation faced by women of color while pursuing advanced degrees in theology and religious studies.

LIGHT IN THE SHADOWS

VT3168
Produced and directed by Shakti Butler, Ph. D, this video is designed as an equal opportunity learning program. The dialogue in this video takes place among a group of American women of Indigenous, Arab, African, European, Jewish, Latina, and Multi-Racial descent. These women met over the course of one year. The issues that emerge in this video are examples of what must be addressed when worldviews and experiences - the result of historically aberrant social conventions, public policy and institutionalized practices - interfere with creating an equitable and humane society. It is strongly suggested that this video and its materials be seen by people who have had previous exposure to issues of diversity and that the group conversations are facilitated by an experienced teacher or trainer.

WOMEN IN THE NEW TESTAMENT: A MIDDLE EASTERN CULTUREAL VIEW PART 1
