Aimed at stimulating discussion among United Methodists, this May 5, 1998 teleconference offers factual information on children and poverty, provides biblical and theological grounding for work with children and the poor, and offers new challenges and hope. The program is sponsored by the United Methodist Bishop's Initiative Task Force on Children and Poverty, United Methodist Communications and denominational agencies. This Episcopal Initiative is an effort to help our congregations respond to God's call to a "new level of dedication and commitment on behalf of children and the impoverished." The initiative's goals are highlighted. Panelists include Bishop Marshall Meadors, Jr., Mississippi Area, Bishops' Initiative Task Force chairman; Bishop Kenneth Carder, Nashville; and Peggy Halsey, executive secretary for women, children, and family ministries, Board of Global Ministries. The moderator is Rev. Bernard "Skip" Keels, District Superintendent, Baltimore West District, Baltimore-Washington Annual Conference.
