E|MERGE VOL. 3- DEVELOPING YOUTH AS FULLY DEVOTED DISCIPLES

Image:

Vol. 3:
The 13 sessions are grouped into three units:
Unit 1: Trick My Life (4 sessions) uses popular makeover shows as a metaphor for how we experience Christ. On these shows a team of experts improves a car, living room, or wardrobe so dramatically that its owners often respond by jumping around and screaming for joy. Likewise, Jesus changes us in incredible ways and gives us joy unlike anything we have ever experienced.
Unit 2: I'm Third (4 sessions) focuses on priorities. Jesus taught "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and "You shall love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:37, 39). In this unit we'll discuss how to put God first, others next, and ourselves third.
Unit 3: Arise (5 sessions) focuses on leadership by looking at the second half of I Samuel and how David developed as a leader in the years before he became king.

Length: 10min (2-3min/unit)

Publisher: Abingdon Press

Published Year: 2008

Viewing Rights: Church Use Permitted

RENEWAL OR RUIN? The Institute on Religion and Democracy's Attack on The United Methodist Church

Church renewal or church schism? Since its beginning in 1982, the Institute on Religion and Democracy has continuously undermined the United Methodist Church and other mainline Protestant denominations by attacking the character of church leaders. This organization, funded by some of the world's most powerful foundations, undermines the witness of the church by fueling controversy to its own benefit. This film exposes the true intent of their efforts to "renew" the church.

Featuring Randall Balmer, Bishop Kenneth Carter, Frederick Clarkson, Jim Naughton, Bishop Beverly Shamana, Andrew Weaver, and Jim Winkler

Length: 24 minutes

Published Year: 2007

Viewing Rights: Church Use Permitted

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP- JEWISH, CATHOLIC, AND PROTESTANT WISDOM ON THE ENVIRONMENT

Image:

Author: Jay W. Richards

A fair and honest debate about religious responses to environmental issues should always distinguish theological principles from prudential judgments. The Cornwall Declaration and the accompanying essays in this book were written to do just that. They were not written to provide theological rationale for current environmentalist fashion. Rather, they seek to articulate the broad Judeo-Christian theological principles concerning the environment, and to distinguish those principles from contrary ideas popular in the environmental movement.

Barrett, CFP, of the United Methodist Foundation of Michigan in cooperation with West Michigan Conference Communications. This 17 minute video presents some of the most common difficulties encountered by the smaller church as well as techniques that can be used to overcome these obstacles. Strategies presented include foundation matters of attitude and style as well as practical actions that can improve the financial life of any congregation.
EFFECTIVE STEWARDSHIP- WISDOM ON THE ENVIRONMENT

Image:

This DVD, produced by Acton Media, takes a look at our role as stewards of God's creation.
A proper, biblical understanding of resources and of humanity's relationship to nature provides the basis for a solid environmental ethic. It also protects us from the tendency among many in the wider environmental movement to idolize nature. This film emphasizes the need to distinguish between two things that often get confused. On the one hand, there's the non-negotiable biblical command to be good stewards of the natural environment. On the other hand, there are the various claims about how best to do this, claims about which people of good will and intelligence may disagree. This film encourages participants to look at the trade-offs for various environmental policies and remember that, as stewards, we often are called to make hard choices and to remember other stewardship responsibilities, such as our responsibility to the world's poor. As the lessons six experts make clear, we are called not simply to care for God's creation but to care for it effectively.

Length: 20 minutes

Publisher: Acton Media

Published Year: 2007

Viewing Rights: Church Use Permitted
