In this study, Dr. James Efird will walk with you through each of the four gospel accounts of Jesus' betrayal, death and resurrection. You will study the gospels in chronological order: Mark, Luke, Matthew and John. The purpose of this study is to read each of the gospel accounts separately, recognize the similarities and differences in each, understand the basis for the differences in account, and gain a broader representation of the passion of Christ. Tape 1: (Introduction & Session 1-6)
Session 1- provide basic information about this study and summarizes five key points in the Gospel of Mark.
Session 2- Background to the Gospel Mark; Mark 14:1-25. Jesus shares the meal with his disciples, Judas violates the Covenant of Hospitality by betraying Jesus' location.
Session 3-Mark 14:26-59. Jesus goes to Garden of Gethsemane to pray and is arrested. He is charged with blasphemy.
Session 4- Mark 14:61-15:32. Jesus is convicted of blasphemy. Pilate releases Barabbas and Jesus scouraged and taken to be crucified.
Session 5- Mark 15:33-39 Jesus dies on teh cross and the curtain in the temple tears half.
Session 6- Mark 15:40-16:20 Joseph of Arimathea asks Pilate for Jesus' body, the women discover an open tomb.
