Ignoring their father's warnings, three youngsters cut a Christmas tree on the property of their Scrooge-like, cantankerous neighbor. However, the Christmas spirit isn't the same with a stolen tree. The children gather up courage to apologize to the neighbor and are surprised to find he is a lonely old seaman who holds them spellbound with thrilling stories.
