This is the story of Artie, a ten-year-old boy growing up during World War II, whose brother Ray, has gone to battle in the South Pacific. Artie's parents struggle to provide a cushion of security as Artie struggles with difficult issues of faith and death. While encouraging Artie's efforts to aid the war effort they also communicate their own faith and hope.
