UNTHINKABLE- THE SCOTT RIGSBY STORY

UNTHINKABLE- THE SCOTT RIGSBY STORY
Scott Risgsby with Jenna Glazter
It was just over two years ago when Scott Rigsby did the, well ... unthinkable, when he finished the Ford Ironman World Championship. That day he became the first double amputee to finish the race with prosthetics. Rigsby's story is inspiring for much more than the fact that he finished the Ford Ironman World Championship - which is no small feat. At 18 Rigsby was involved in a terrible motor vehicle accident - one in which he was dragged under a trailer for 300 feet. One of his legs had to be amputated right away. The other would come off a decade later after 26 operations. "Unthinkable" tells the amazing story of how Rigsby managed to battle through variety of tragedies that included so much time in the hospital he felt like a "professional patient" and his subsequent battle with depression and alcohol addiction. He describes and shares his "painful loss of relationships and financial hardships that lead to a life controlled by fear and mistrust." This, of course, is a story of unbelievable success. One day Rigsby did decide to change his life. He found purpose in his life "by competing in endurance events to encourage adults and children alike." Rigsby went on to become a world record holder for double amputee athletes over both running and triathlon distances. He's now not only the first double amputee to finish the Ironman, he's become an active advocate for athletes with disabilities through the Scott Rigsby Foundation, which is designed to "inspire, inform and enable the physically challenged with loss of limb or mobility to live an active lifestyle." Co-written by Jenna Glazter, "Unthinkable" tells that story with humor, passion and drama, while encouraging us all to overcome our own obstacles to do the unthinkable. 12 chapters, paperback
